The cost of treatment and availability of qualified professionals are the primary obstacles to families obtaining effective treatment. We are working with the local public schools, community centered boards, and insurance/Medicaid providers to pool resources in order to get each child the effective treatment they need. Since no single public agency is responsible for providing these services, there are often many financial gaps and challenges that families face when trying to obtain treatment. As a non-profit organization, the Alpine Autism Center helps bridge these gaps through charitable contributions -- we could not sustain our mission without the generosity of the local community.
The costs of not providing timely and appropriate treatment include:
-Loss of children living independent, productive lives (most will be institutionalized for life costing the taxpayers 2 million dollars per child. However, intensive early intervention can reduce this amount by two-thirds)
-Uncontrolled, dangerous and life-threatening behaviors
-85% divorce rate among families
